What our case studies show about serious injury claims
A serious injury claim is about more than compensation. It's about getting the right support, as early as possible.
You don't have to wait for help
Where fault is accepted, interim payments can fund care, housing, transport and lost earnings before your claim settles. In our £3.7m case, they paid for an accessible home and a suitable vehicle.
Interim paymentsRehabilitation can start early
Insurers are encouraged to fund rehabilitation early, so you can get treatment while your claim continues. In our £1.9m case, rehabilitation and interim payments were discussed with the insurer from the start.
Rehabilitation Code 2015First offers can be too low
Life-changing injuries need expert valuation. In our £1.9m case, the insurer first offered £1 million, and the final settlement was almost twice that.
Expert valuationCould you claim for a serious injury?
You may be able to claim compensation if:
- You've suffered a serious or life-changing injury, such as a spinal or brain injury, an amputation, serious fractures or psychological injury
- It was caused, at least partly, by someone else, at work, on the road or in a public place
- It happened in the last three years, though there are exceptions, for example for children and people who lack mental capacity

Serious injury case studies: FAQs
Are these real serious injury cases?
Yes. They're based on real claims handled by NJS Law's personal injury team, the solicitors behind Injuries Direct. Some details are kept anonymous to protect our clients' privacy.
What counts as a serious injury?
Usually an injury with a long-term or permanent effect on your life, such as a brain or spinal injury, an amputation, serious fractures, serious burns or scarring, loss of sight or hearing, or severe psychological injury.
Can I get money before my claim settles?
Often, yes. If the other side accepts fault, we can ask for interim payments, an advance on your compensation, to help with care, rehabilitation, housing or lost earnings while your claim continues.
How long does a serious injury claim take?
Serious injury claims often take several years, because doctors need to understand your long-term prognosis before the claim can be valued properly. Interim payments mean you can get support in the meantime.
Will my claim be worth the same?
Not necessarily. Compensation depends on your injuries, your recovery and your financial losses, now and in the future. Past results don't guarantee future outcomes, but we'll look at your situation for free and explain what your claim could include.
