Silicosis is a form of lung disease which is caused by inhaling crystalline silica dust particles. Silica is a mineral commonly found in rocks such as granite, sandstone and some coal and metal ores. When these are broken during industrial work, the dust particles that form can be breathed in, with dangerous consequences for those exposed. Types of Silicosis Claim

There are three main types of silicosis. These are:

• Chronic Silicosis – Caused by low-level exposure over a long period (over 20 years). Symptoms will begin with a dry cough but will eventually completely transform the lungs.
• Accelerated Silicosis – Exposure to a higher level of silica over a shorter period of time. Symptoms include severe shortness of breath and swelling of the lungs is much quicker.
• Acute Silicosis – Short exposure to very high levels of silica dust. Rarer form of the disease but very damaging to the health. Lungs can fill with fluid causing severe shortness of breath. Fatality can be quick.
