Bus Accident Compensation

Travelling by bus is statistically one of the safest ways to travel. The vast majority of bus drivers undergo vigorous training and tests before being allowed to carry passengers on roads and are professional at what they do. However, every so often we hear of people being injured in a bus accident and unfortunately they do happen from time to time. If you have been hurt in a bus accident you may be entitled to make a bus accident compensation claim.

Bus accidents could happen for a number of reasons. Heavy traffic, the driver not paying attention and poor road conditions could all contribute to a nasty bus accident on the road. As a passenger it is impossible to control the actions of the bus driver or of any other driver that may cause the road accident. Therefore making a claim for bus accident compensation can be relatively easy to prove. The only time that you may not be able to claim is where you actions on the bus distracted the driver and this lead to the accident.

Bus Accident Compensation Injury Types

There are a number of ways you could be injured in a bus accident. Some of these include:

  • Whiplash from the driver braking suddenly
  • Falling over when standing up after sudden unnecessary stopping
  • Slipping or tripping up wet/dangerous double-decker steps
  • Falling from the seat if the driver takes a corner too fast
  • Tripping on the entrance/exit of the bus
  • Another car/vehicle hitting the bus causing it to crash

It is the responsibility of the bus driver and the company they work for to ensure your safety when travelling by bus. To reduce the risk of passenger accidents from occuring the vehicle should undergo regular safety checks, whilst the driver should drive in a safe manner at all times.

Other vehicles can also be a cause of accidents to buses. Many car drivers can become frustrated by the slower pace buses travel at and the frequent stop-starts they make to drop off and pick up passengers. This can cause dangerous overtaking manoeuvres which bus drivers find harder to see because of their decreased visibility. Sometimes a collision between a bus and car can occur for this reason.

Bus Accident Compensation Claim Steps

If you do find yourself in the unfortunate situation of being in a bus accident, it is important to take certain steps in order to potentially receive the maximum amount of bus accident compensation for your injuries. These include:

  • The name of the bus company
  • The route number and registration of the specific bus you were on
  • The contact details of the bus driver
  • The time and place the accident occurred
  • Details of any witnesses to the accident
  • Details of any other motorist involved

We will then work closely with a specialised bus accident compensation solicitor to find who exactly was at fault for the accident and subsequently make a claim to whoever that may be. If it was the driver it will be the insurance of the bus company that he worked for, however if it was an individual motorist it will be their own personal insurance provider.
