Woman severs fingers in accident at work
A woman who was injured when she operated a new and modified piece of machinery that she had not received any training for, has been successful in her personal injury compensation claim.
It was heard that during the accident at work, the woman was required to carry out a routine maintenance operation on the piece of machinery. Unfortunately, the machine started itself automatically and she caught her hand and severed several of her fingers.
It was also heard that the woman was required to clean wadding that had assembled around the blade inside the machine. This meant that had to reach inside and around the rear of the machine. The company she worked for had recently had modifications carried out on the machine, which meant that it was able to start itself automatically.
The woman was immediately taken to hospital, but medical staff were unable to save one of her severed fingers.
After the accident at work occurred, the injured woman contacted her legal team, who pursued a personal injury compensation claim on her behalf against her employers, for the injuries she sustained. The company admitted liability for her injuries in the accident at work and a compensation payment was negotiated. The injured woman received £100,000 for her personal injury compensation claim.
