Medical negligence causes personal injuries

An assistant social worker, who is from Stockton-on-Tees, has been successful in her personal injury compensation claim. The social worker was given more antibiotics than the required dosage, resulting in her inner ear being permanently damaged.

It was heard that the assistant social worker, 60, who does not wish to be identified, had to go to hospital for what was described to be a routine hip operation. After the operation, the woman was prescribed a powerful antibiotic called Gentamicin, which was supposed to help fight and ward off any infections.

If you use this powerful antibiotic for a prolonged period of time and at a high dosage, then it can have extremely serious side effects. This medical negligence has caused the woman serious health problems, such as balance problems which, she has been advised by medical staff, may get worse as she gets older.

The injured woman is unable to carry out routine tasks, as she finds them difficult due to her mobility problems. The woman described her condition, which has similar symptoms to vertigo, as a feeling of dizziness and an inability to stay balanced.

After this terrible incident occurred, the woman pursued a personal injury compensation claim against the North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Trust. They admitted liability for the injuries she has been caused due to medical negligence and she has been awarded £400,000 in personal injury compensation.
