Engineer Seeks £150,000 Work Accident Compensation Following Blast
An engineer from Cambridge is seeking £150,000 compensation after being set on fire in a horrific accident at work.
Adam Segrave, was working on the replacement of an air conditioning unit, along with two workmates when the accident occurred. Pipes on the unit needed to be flushed with nitrogen gas, unfortunately one of Adams colleagues used oxygen by mistake causing an explosion.
Mr. Segrave was thrown from his stepladder and set on fire by the blast, suffering fourteen percent burns and multiple cuts and bruises. He was rushed to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge but later transferred to a specialised burns unit at Broomfield Hospital.
The engineer was hospitalised for twelve days where he received skin grafts and regular doses of strong painkillers including morphine to ease his horrendous pain.
Adcock Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Adams employers were accused of being negligent and breaching numerous safety guidelines. Their insurers have admitted liability for the accident but an actual figure on the amount of compensation to be awarded has yet to be decided.
A year after the accident Mr. Segrave still suffers from flashbacks of the incident and has to wear specialised pressure clothing and a splint during the night.
